William E. Longo, Ph.D

CEO

Dr. Bill Longo is a Materials Scientist/Electron Microscopist specializing in asbestos analysis. In 1983, he founded Micro Analytical Labs, offering TEM analysis for asbestos-containing samples. In 1987, he became president of Materials Analytical Services, leading it to become a top lab in chemical analysis and materials characterization for various industries. Bill is now the CEO of MAS.

Bob Schmitter

MAS Certified Green Technical Director

Bob has over 25 years of experience in environmental management, having worked on projects involving asbestos abatement, site remediation, and brownfield redevelopment. He has worked in consulting, academic research, and laboratory settings. He offers expertise in regulatory compliance and project management. Bob holds Bachelors and Master’s Degrees in Geology, a law degree, and is a member of the State Bar of Georgia.

William Egeland, M.S., P.G.

Senior Consultant

Bill Egeland is a professional geologist/mineralogist who has been a Senior Consultant since 2009 and with MAS for over 30 years. He is an expert at optical, transmission electron and scanning electron microscopy and specializes in asbestos products as well as in the analysis of asbestos exposure throughout the US. He has worked to solve industrial hygiene and indoor air quality problems throughout his career at MAS.

Freda Shaw

Chemistry Department Manager

 Freda Shaw joined MAS in 2019 to lead the Chemistry Department. She has over 15 years of scientific experience including analytical and managerial roles in service laboratories. Freda specializes in logistics, efficiency, and quality improvements while providing technical and analytical guidance to the members of the Chemistry Department at MAS.
